Welcome to Purple Jesus Diaries' Point/Counterpoint, where we interview two experts on a hotly contested topic of interest for Minnesota Vikings fans. This week, we're tackling the news of former Eagles, Redskins, and Vikings quarterback Donovan McNabb retiring. We asked an Eagles fan and a Vikings fan to make a case in support of their own team as to why McNabb should wear their colors upon retirement ...
POINT: Eagles Fan
DONOVAN MCNABB SHOULD OOOBVIOUSLY RETIRE AS AN EAGLE BECAUSE HE PLAYED THE BEST YEARS OF HIS LIFE WEARING THE GREEN AND BLACK. THINK ABOUT THIS ... FROM 2000 TO 2004, MCNABB LED THE EAGLES TO FIVE STRAIGHT PLAYOFF APPEARANCES. HE WAS IN HIS SECOND YEAR WHEN THE STREAK STARTED AND WAS A WILY OLD VETERAN OF SIX YEARS BY THE TIME THE EAGLES OBLITERATED ALMOST THE ENTIRE LEAGUE BEFORE LOSING TO THOSE CHEATING PATRIOTS IN THE SUPER BOWL OF THE 2004 SEASON. OF COURSE A PLAYER OF THAT CALIBER SHOULD ONLY EVER BE RECOGNIZED AS A PHILADELPHIA EAGLE, RIGHT WHERE HE BELONGS. HEY, THEY SAY HE USE TO CHOKE AND COULDN'T WIN THE BIG GAME, BUT DID YOU EVER LOOK AT THE TALENT HE HAD TO WORK WITH AROUND HIM? TAKE AWAY BRIAN WESTBROOK AND YOU WERE LEFT WITH FREDDIE "FRED-EX" MITCHELL AND GREG LEWIS. YOU CAN'T WIN ANY GAMES WITH THOSE MORONS! MCNABB WAS, IS, AND ALWAYS WILL BE AN EAGLE AND IT'S A GOD DAMN HONOR TO HAVE HIM RETIRE AS ONE.
COUNTERPOINT: Vikings Fan
7-15, 39 yards. Uh, yeah, he can retire an Eagle. Why are we even debating this?

Not even close to being a discussion. Why not throw the Redskins in there too? Clearly he should retire as an Eagle. That would be like Brett Favre signing a one-day contract to retire as a Jet.
Wait a minute!! Let's not jump to conclusions here. It's just not that simple!! I got your case right here. I say he retires as a Viking and maybe a spot in the ring of honor. "Preposterous!" you say? Listen up. Donovan McNabb came to the Vikings as a not-very-highly-touted free agent signing. There were not very many teams willing to give him a shot at the starting job, much less make him the prohibitive starter entering camp. Let's just say he had re-signed with Washington. The Vikings would have entered the season with a Sage Rosenfels type of player at QB ahead of Ponder. He inevitably would have won more games than McNabb and Ponder, which would have added to our win total. With that, we would have been moved out of the Matt Kalil range in the draft, and down to the part of the draft where we would have taken someone like Michael Floyd (he's one of us, after all). This unnamed QB would have had the good sense NOT to give the ball to Adrian Peterson late in a meaningless season, which would have guaranteed Purple Jesus would NOT be resurrected and have the greatest season that a running back has ever had. Thank you Donovan for Peterson's knee and NOT Michael Floyd!
In fact, lets take this further (or not!!)...Had Ponder spent more time on the bench, he'd probably have spent much more time surfing the web, which would have led him to the weird end of the internet, which would have led him to strange insertion videos, and therefore no Samantha Steele. Sure, she's no Erin Andrews (unless we find a peephole video), but this is Minnesota and we'll take what we can get!Clearly, McNabb new this and chose to step in and take one for the team. Thanks Bro!
@Hammy1724 So we OWE it to McNabb to get him to retire as one of us? AMAZING.
@Hammy1724 Super smrt.
@Hammy1724 yes and yes! ha ha.
